Hypertensive heart disease versus hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: multi-parametric CMR predictors beyond end-diastolic wall thickness ≥15mm
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Both American and European guidelines for the management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) advise that HCM be considered when LV end-diastolic wall thickness (EDWT) ≥15 mm in ≥1 myocardial segment. Hypertensive heart disease (HHD) is a common cause of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Distinguishing between HHD and HCM is a frequent clinical conundrum. We aimed to identify predictors of HHD versus HCM with EDWT ≥15 mm, using multi-parametric cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) including pixel-wise myocardial segmental EDWT analysis.

Differentiation of athlete's heart from pathological forms of cardiac hypertrophy by means of geometric indices derived from cardiovascular magnetic resonance.
PURPOSE Determination of the underlying etiology of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a common, challenging, and critical clinical problem. The authors aimed to test whether pathological LVH, such as occurs in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), hypertensive heart disease, or aortic stenosis, and physiological LVH in athletes, can be distinguished by means of left ventricular volume and geom...
متن کاملCMR Assessment of the Left Ventricle Apical Morphology in Subjects with Giant T-wave Inversions and Without Apical Wall Thickness>15mm
Background Unexplainable giant T-wave inversions in the precordial leads with apical wall thickness <15 mm has been reported. These patients cannot be diagnosed to have apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (AHCM) according to the current criteria. The objective of this study was to evaluate the apical morphology of subjects with giant T-wave inversion in the absence of apical wall thickness>15 mm...
متن کاملPrevalence and predictors of asymmetric hypertensive heart disease: insights from cardiac and aortic function with cardiovascular magnetic resonance.
AIMS We sought to determine the prevalence of asymmetric hypertensive heart disease (HHD) overlapping morphologically with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and to determine predictors of this pattern of hypertensive remodelling. METHODS AND RESULTS One hundred and fifty hypertensive patients underwent 1.5 T cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. Twenty-one patients were excluded due to c...
متن کاملMaximal left ventricular wall thickness: a comparison between CMR and echocardiography in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Background Echocardiography (ECHO) is used for diagnosis and management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Morphologic diagnosis is based on the presence of myocardial thickness of >15mm in adults or a septum to posterior wall ratio of >1.5. Septal wall thickness (WT) >30 mm is one of several high risk features that are used to guide the decision for prophylactic implantable cardioverter-def...
متن کاملThe multi-modality cardiac imaging approach to the Athlete's heart: an expert consensus of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging.
The term 'athlete's heart' refers to a clinical picture characterized by a slow heart rate and enlargement of the heart. A multi-modality imaging approach to the athlete's heart aims to differentiate physiological changes due to intensive training in the athlete's heart from serious cardiac diseases with similar morphological features. Imaging assessment of the athlete's heart should begin with...
